AI Speech & Audio Specialist

About the role

At TELUS Digital, we are advancing AI by improving how systems understand, process, and generate human speech. As an AI Speech & Audio Specialist, you will help shape next‑generation speech technologies such as Automatic Speech Recognition (ASR), Text‑to‑Speech (TTS), and voice AI, ensuring they sound natural, accurate, and culturally relevant.

Key responsibilities

• Evaluate AI‑generated speech for naturalness, pronunciation, rhythm, tone, emotion, and overall quality.
• Review and improve ASR outputs by identifying transcription errors, accent variations, and linguistic nuances.
• Perform professional audio editing tasks, including segmentation, trimming, noise reduction, silence adjustment, and quality enhancement.
• Analyze recordings with waveform and spectrogram tools to detect quality issues.
• Support creation and validation of high‑quality speech datasets for model training and evaluation.
• Conduct audio quality checks for loudness, background noise, clipping, distortion, and export specifications.
• Apply expertise in phonetics, linguistics, or audio engineering to improve voice AI projects.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in Audio Engineering, Linguistics, Phonetics, Speech‑Language Pathology, Computational Linguistics, or related fields.
• Professional experience in audio production, sound design, dialogue editing, or speech data creation.
• Native‑level proficiency in the target language for language‑specific projects.

Required skills

• Proficiency with at least one digital audio workstation: Adobe Audition, iZotope RX, Pro Tools, Reaper, Audacity, Logic Pro, Cubase, or similar.
• Knowledge of audio editing, noise reduction, speech segmentation, spectrogram analysis, and audio quality assessment.
