Accountant – Bakery Operations

About the role

The bakery is looking for an experienced Accountant to lead its accounting function. You will be responsible for the accuracy of financial records, preparation of statements, payroll, tax compliance and internal controls, supporting the business’s growth and operational efficiency.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee day‑to‑day accounting activities and ensure accurate recording of all transactions.
• Prepare monthly, quarterly and annual financial statements on schedule.
• Analyse financial performance and provide recommendations to management.
• Assist in budgeting and monitor actual results against forecasts.
• Lead, mentor and develop the accounting team, handling recruitment and performance reviews.
• Manage payroll processing, statutory deductions and timely submission of payroll returns.
• Maintain tax registration, prepare and file tax returns, and ensure all statutory payments are made on time.
• Develop and monitor internal controls over cash, inventory, purchasing, sales, receivables and payables.
• Identify financial and operational risks and propose mitigation measures.
• Coordinate statutory and financial audits, liaise with external auditors and regulatory bodies.

Required profile

• Qualified accountant with several years of experience in a similar role.
• Strong understanding of Jamaican tax laws and payroll regulations.
• Proven ability to lead and develop a small accounting team.
• Excellent analytical and problem‑solving skills.
• High level of integrity and attention to detail.
