Assistant Accountant

About the role

We are an established Jamaican FMCG company seeking a detail‑oriented Assistant Accountant to support our Finance team. Reporting to the Accountant, you will help with daily accounting tasks, maintain accurate records and assist in reporting, inventory accounting and compliance in a fast‑paced environment.

Key responsibilities

• Respond to vendor, customer and colleague inquiries on billing, payments and accounting matters.
• Assist with month‑end and year‑end closing procedures and prepare journal entries.
• Maintain general ledger schedules and update sales reports.
• Reconcile month‑end stock records with the accounting system and post related journal entries.
• Participate in physical stock counts, investigate variances and support cost‑of‑goods reporting.
• Monitor allocation of production, wastage and logistics costs.
• Compile and file General Consumption Tax (GCT) and other statutory returns on time.
• Maintain financial records and supporting documents in line with audit and compliance standards.
• Assist with internal and external audit queries and ensure proper filing of accounting documents.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or related field, or pursuit of a recognised professional accounting qualification.
• One to three years of experience in an accounting role, preferably within FMCG.
• Experience with ERP systems is an advantage.
• Strong attention to detail, high accuracy and ability to work under pressure.
