Customs Clerk

About the role

We are looking for a diligent Customs Clerk to manage import and export clearance processes, ensuring compliance with Jamaican customs regulations and internal procedures. The role involves coordinating with airlines, shipping lines, suppliers and customs brokers to facilitate smooth shipment handling.

Key responsibilities

• Verify tariff classifications and prepare customs declarations for imports and exports.
• Maintain an up‑to‑date internal clearance log and publish required customs documentation on the web server.
• Coordinate with airlines, shipping lines, suppliers and contractors to ensure compliance with standard operating procedures.
• Request payment of duties and taxes from finance and vet customer invoices.
• Complete and submit shipment manifests, monitor shipment status, and update systems such as Ops log and Cargo Wise.
• Follow up with shipping companies on arrival notices and with customs brokers for clearance updates.
• Assist in physical dispatch of shipments, delivery to customers, and application for necessary permits.
• Support delivery orders in the Port Community System and report non‑conformities for continuous improvement.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree.
• Minimum 1 year of experience in customs clearance or related logistics functions.
• Strong knowledge of Jamaican customs laws, processes and regulations.
• Familiarity with AFR and OFR operations and basic documentation handling.

Required skills

• Proficiency with MS Office.
• Experience using Cargo Wise system.
• Knowledge of Port Community System (PCS) operations.
