Customs Documentation Clerk

About the role

The Customs Documentation Clerk ensures that all import and export shipments comply with customs regulations and internal procedures. Working closely with logistics partners, finance and customs brokers, this role guarantees accurate documentation, timely clearance and smooth delivery to customers.

Key responsibilities

• Verify tariff classification in customs files.
• Maintain an updated internal clearance log.
• Ensure compliance with customs and local laws throughout the clearance process.
• Coordinate with airlines, shipping lines, suppliers and contractors to guarantee smooth shipment handling.
• Create customs documentation and publish it on the web server.
• Request payment of duties and taxes from finance.
• Complete and submit all shipment manifests.
• Monitor shipment status and update company systems such as Ops log and Cargo Wise.
• Follow up with shipping companies on arrival notices.
• Submit export documents and liaise with customs brokers for updated clearance information.
• Support physical dispatch of shipments when required.
• Deliver shipments to customers according to SOPs.
• Apply for required customs permits.
• Vet invoices submitted by customers.
• Assist with Delivery Orders in the Port Community System.
• Detect and report non‑conformities to drive continuous improvement.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree (any field).
• Minimum 1 year of experience in customs documentation or a similar logistics role.
• Familiarity with customs regulations and tariff classification.
• Ability to work with multiple stakeholders and follow standard operating procedures.

Required skills

• Proficiency in MS Office.
• Working knowledge of Cargo Wise (or similar logistics management system).
• Basic understanding of AFR and OFR operations related to customs clearance.
