Customs Documentation Specialist

About the role

The Customs Documentation Specialist ensures that all import and export shipments comply with Jamaican customs regulations and internal company procedures. This role acts as a liaison between airlines, shipping lines, suppliers, and internal teams to guarantee smooth and lawful cargo movement.

Key responsibilities

• Verify tariff classifications in customs files and maintain an updated internal clearance log.
• Ensure compliance with full customs and local laws throughout the clearing process.
• Coordinate with airline, shipping line, supplier, and contractor contacts to meet SOP and customer requirements.
• Create customs documentation, publish it on the web server, and request duty and tax payments from finance.
• Complete and submit all shipment manifests and update company systems such as Ops log and Cargo Wise.
• Follow up with shipping companies on arrival notices and with customs brokers for clearance updates.
• Assist in physical dispatch, delivery of shipments, and apply for required customs permits.
• Vet customer invoices, support Delivery Orders in the Port Community System, and report non‑conformities for continuous improvement.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree.
• Minimum 1 year of relevant experience in customs documentation or similar roles.
• Proficiency in preparing customs declarations for imports and exports.
• Strong knowledge of Jamaican customs laws, processes, and regulations.
• Basic understanding of AFR and OFR operations (handling, documentation, customs clearance).
