Knowledge Management Officer (Law Library)

About the role

The Knowledge Management Officer (Law Library) is based in the Office of Legal Affairs of the International Seabed Authority in Kingston, Jamaica. Acting as the primary custodian of the Authority’s legal memory, the role bridges traditional librarianship with modern digital knowledge management to support the Secretariat’s legal work.

Key responsibilities

• Manage acquisition, organization, and digital archiving of legal materials, including specialized law databases.
• Develop and maintain legal taxonomies, metadata schemes, and indexing systems for UNCLOS and related instruments.
• Implement and oversee the legal knowledge management plan, conducting knowledge audits and defining retention schedules.
• Provide high‑level legal research, retrieve international instruments, case law, and jurisprudence to support drafting of reports and regulatory frameworks.
• Deliver training on legal research methods and coordinate with other international law libraries and UN agencies.

Required profile

• Advanced university degree (LL.M., Library Science or related field) or equivalent combination of a first‑level degree plus two years experience.
• Minimum five years progressive experience in an international organization, government, law firm, library or knowledge‑management environment.
• Demonstrated experience in legal or policy research, metadata management, and digital records preservation.
