Assistant Accountant

About the role

The Assistant Accountant will support the Finance team by reconciling monthly balance‑sheet accounts, preparing journal entries and assisting with the company’s tax portfolio. This role ensures accurate financial reporting and compliance with Jamaican tax regulations.

Key responsibilities

• Review coding of all journal entries and tax‑payable documents for completeness and compliance with the Manual of Authorities.
• Prepare and post monthly journal entries, and distribute relevant reports to aviation terminals promptly.
• Assist in the calculation and recording of General Consumption Tax (GCT), Withholding Tax, Property Tax and other statutory obligations in the ERP system.
• Support the preparation of monthly Corporate Income Tax (CIT) and District Income Tax (DIT) calculations and related journal entries.
• Facilitate timely filing and payment of annual tax returns and estimated income tax installments.
• Perform account reconciliations, prepare non‑trade reports and generate debit/credit memos for accounts receivable transactions.
• Provide accounting assistance to external auditors and resolve discrepancies on assigned accounts.
• Support month‑end close activities and contribute to special projects as directed by management.

Required profile

• University degree in Accounting with at least three (3) years of relevant experience, or
• Foundation level qualification from a recognized accounting body (e.g., ACCA, CGA, AAT) together with three (3) years of experience.

Required skills

• Proficiency in using ERP accounting systems for journal entry processing and tax recording.
• Ability to perform tax calculations including GCT, CIT, DIT and Property Tax.
