General Manager – Microfinance Operations

About the role
The General Manager will lead the micro‑finance institution’s daily operations, drive financial performance and ensure regulatory compliance while expanding market reach. Reporting to the Managing Director, the role combines strategic planning with hands‑on leadership of a high‑performance culture.
Key responsibilities
- Provide overall leadership of day‑to‑day operations, financial results, regulatory compliance and market expansion.
- Develop and execute strategic and annual operating plans to achieve growth, profitability and operational excellence.
- Prepare and present Board reports on revenue, expenditure and performance against budget, and initiate corrective actions when needed.
- Oversee lending processes, customer service, collections and ensure strict adherence to Bank of Jamaica regulations, AML laws and internal credit policies.
- Identify new market opportunities, design competitive loan products for micro and small enterprises, and build community partnerships.
- Lead, mentor and evaluate a high‑performing management team, fostering accountability and excellent service.
- Identify, engage and prepare high‑potential employees for key roles.
- Liaise with the Sales and Marketing Manager to implement programmes and campaigns that promote products, raise market awareness and retain clients within the loan portfolio.
Required profile
- Post‑graduate qualification in Finance, Banking or a related discipline.
- Minimum 5 years in a senior management position within a micro‑finance or credit‑based organisation.
- Demonstrated competency in strategic planning and business development.
- Strong understanding of core and support functions such as Credit, Collections, Finance, Operations, HR Management and IT.
- Working knowledge of data analysis, performance/operations metrics, IT/Business infrastructure and MS Office.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills with internal and external stakeholders at all levels.
- Outstanding leadership and people‑development capabilities.
- Excellent planning, scheduling and resource‑management skills.
- High process orientation, strong work ethics and ability to perform under pressure.
