Fiber Optic Splicer – On‑site (Kingston)

About the role

The Fiber Optic Splicer will work full‑time on‑site in Kingston, installing, splicing, testing and troubleshooting fiber optic cables for telecom projects. The role involves collaborating with field technicians, engineers and project managers to ensure network installations meet specifications and safety standards.

Key responsibilities

• Install, splice, test and troubleshoot fiber optic cables according to industry standards and project specifications.
• Prepare cables and perform both fusion and mechanical splicing.
• Conduct OTDR and power‑meter testing, document splice results and network configurations.
• Interpret technical drawings, network layouts and schematics, and coordinate with field teams.
• Follow safety procedures, maintain tools and equipment, and support maintenance and repair of existing fiber networks.

Required profile

• Strong practical experience with fiber optic cables and general cabling systems.
• Knowledge of structured cabling practices, including installation, routing, labeling and termination.
• Basic understanding of electricity and safe work practices around powered equipment.
• Proficiency with hand tools and fiber‑specific tools such as cleavers, strippers, fusion splicers and OTDRs.
• Previous experience in fiber optic splicing or telecommunications preferred.
• Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, network diagrams and written instructions.
• Good problem‑solving skills for diagnosing and resolving field issues.
• Willingness to work on‑site, including outdoor environments, and adhere to safety and quality standards.
• Effective communication skills and ability to work collaboratively within diverse project teams.
• Relevant technical certification or vocational training in telecommunications, fiber optics or electrical installation is an asset.
