Senior Coordination Officer

About the role

The Senior Coordination Officer will serve as UNEP’s focal point for the Caribbean Environment Programme and the Secretariat of the Cartagena Convention. Based in Kingston, Jamaica, the incumbent will ensure that the Convention’s decisions are translated into concrete action plans and that regional activities are well‑coordinated.

Key responsibilities

• Coordinate and supervise the preparation of meetings of the Contracting Parties to the Cartagena Convention.
• Analyse COP decisions and develop actionable work plans.
• Liaise with Parties, governments, donors, and international organisations across the Wider Caribbean Region.
• Align activities of the Regional Coordinating Unit with Regional Activity Centres to deliver high‑quality outputs.
• Maintain host‑country relations with the Government of Jamaica and participate in UN Country Team meetings.
• Support UNEP’s Regional Seas Programme and ensure coherence with other multilateral environmental agreements.

Required profile

• Advanced university degree in environmental science, international relations, or a related field.
• Significant experience in coordination of multinational environmental programmes.
• Proven ability to work with governments, NGOs, and donor agencies.
• Strong analytical and report‑writing skills.
