Programme Management Internship – Caribbean Environment Program

About the role

The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is seeking motivated interns to support the Caribbean Environment Program, the regional secretariat for the Cartagena Convention. This hybrid internship (remote and onsite) will involve assisting Programme Management Officers in the implementation of marine and coastal environmental projects across the Caribbean.

Key responsibilities

• Assist in developing project concepts, proposals, and technical papers for Convention implementation.
• Conduct research, analysis, and drafting of briefs, information material, and presentations.
• Take notes and prepare minutes for working group meetings and partner sessions.
• Support the preparation and convening of regional workshops, webinars, and outreach events.
• Help maintain databases, compile infographics, fact‑sheets, and social‑media content for UNEP’s Cartagena Convention Secretariat.
• Assist in updating focal point, working group, and photo databases, and follow up on national report submissions.

Required profile

• Academic background in environmental science, marine/coastal management, marine biology, ecology, environmental law, international relations, sustainable development, or related fields.
• Student in the final year of a bachelor, master’s or Ph.D. programme, or a recent graduate.
• Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work with diverse cultural backgrounds.
• Fluency in English required; knowledge of French or Spanish is desirable.
