Assistant Director of Nutrition Services

About the role

The Assistant Director of Nutrition Services supports the Director of Nutrition Services in the daily operation of a school‑district food management program. The role blends production, compliance, administrative, and supervisory duties to ensure safe, efficient, and high‑quality food service for students.

Key responsibilities

• Arrange substitute staffing and transport food products between district buildings as needed.
• Perform duties of on‑line staff when positions are vacant and maintain a clean, organized work area.
• Promote core values, report concerns, and ensure compliance with Opaa! recipes, menus, and HACCP standards.
• Maintain production records, assist with monthly in‑service and board meetings, and support marketing initiatives.
• Monitor hot and cold food temperatures, reconcile tray counts with cashier reports, and manage cash receipts.
• Enter invoices, update weekly inventory spreadsheets, and consolidate food orders for vendors.
• Assist in coordinating catering events and ensure quality execution.
• Support the DNS in supervising kitchen staff, handling performance issues, and providing training and cross‑training.
• Maintain effective communication with customers and assist in preparing status reports for the Board of Education.
