Head Start Teacher (Early Childhood Education)

About the role

The Head Start Teacher joins the Newton Head Start team to support the educational and developmental needs of preschool children. Working closely with the lead teacher, you will help create a safe, nurturing, and compliant learning environment.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain center compliance with licensing, NC Childcare Rules, Head Start standards, and internal policies.
• Use I-CARE, Inc.’s standard forms for documentation and reporting.
• Assist the lead teacher in planning activities, preparing materials, and ensuring a clean, safe classroom.
• Support developmental assessments and maintain individual education folders for each child.
• Collaborate with teachers, volunteers, parents, and program managers on activity implementation.
• Drive or ride the bus on a rotating basis to extend learning environments when transportation is provided.
• Complete behavior documentation and referral forms as required.

Required profile

• Enrolled in a 2‑year degree program in Early Childhood Education or a related field.
• Minimum two years of experience working with preschool children.
• North Carolina Early Childhood Credential or Child Development Associate (CDA) certification.
• Must hold valid NC early childhood credentials.
