Librarian – Academic Library

About the role

The Librarian will support Trench Town Polytechnic College’s teaching, learning, research and academic development priorities by delivering effective library and information services to students, faculty, staff and other stakeholders. The role includes managing day‑to‑day library operations and fostering a welcoming, student‑centred environment.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee daily operations of the College Library, ensuring a welcoming and student‑centred service.
• Develop, organise, catalogue, classify and maintain library collections according to professional standards.
• Provide reference, research and information‑literacy support to students, faculty and staff.
• Assist users in locating, evaluating and using credible scholarly resources.
• Manage electronic, digital and print library resources, including acquisitions and subscriptions.
• Collaborate with academic departments to support curriculum delivery, research and information‑literacy initiatives.
• Deliver library orientation and information‑literacy sessions.
• Maintain accurate records of circulation, acquisitions, subscriptions and other library activities.

Required profile

• Master’s degree in Library and Information Science or a related discipline.
• Professional training or certification in librarianship or information management (preferred).
• Experience in an academic, TVET or similar educational environment.
• Demonstrated knowledge of library management systems, digital resources, cataloguing and classification practices.
• Strong research, communication, organisational and interpersonal abilities.
