IP/MPLS Engineer

About the role

Digicel is looking for an IP/MPLS Engineer in Kingston. The role is responsible for the overall integrity and performance of the GPON network, including provisioning, commissioning and troubleshooting of IP and telecom-related services.

Key responsibilities

• Design, plan, test, implement and help maintain routers, switches and transport equipment so that network availability is always high.
• Monitor and report KPIs on IP infrastructure nodes and interfaces, such as response time, packet loss, CPU load and bandwidth utilization.
• Configure, provision and test telecommunication services over the GPON network.
• Design, configure, redistribute and troubleshoot IP routing protocols such as OSPF, BGP and MPLS.
• Implement security on network elements in line with enterprise policy, including access lists, firewalls and security best practices.
• Resolve service-affecting faults quickly in line with service level agreements.
• Support the sales team in creating, managing and supporting VOIP services, and support GPON services and Level 2 support.
• Review IP infrastructure practices and configurations against industry best practice.
• Take part in an on-call rotation for escalated customer issues and support other internal teams.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical/Communication Engineering, Computer Science or Software Engineering, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Minimum CCNA certification.
• Experience with Cisco XXXX series switches and routers.
• Comfortable working in a fast-paced, goal and team-oriented environment, able to adapt plans and work under pressure.

Required skills

• In-depth knowledge of IP networks, OSPF, BGP, MPLS, MPLS-TE and QoS.
• Cisco IOS and IOS-XR.
• Fiber transport, DWDM optical technologies and GPON systems, including OLTs.
