Paralegal Officer (Level 5)

About the role

The Real Estate Board is recruiting a Paralegal Officer (Level 5) for the upcoming Real Estate Authority of Jamaica (REAJ). The post is a vacant position on a three-year contract, paid between $2,190,302 and $2,945,713 per year. Working under the guidance of the Senior Legal Officer, the Paralegal Officer helps establish and maintain efficient systems that support Legal Officers, especially in housing-related legal matters.

Key responsibilities

• Organize and maintain case files for hearings, investigations and litigation, and collate and index evidentiary documents.
• Assist attorneys in preparing affidavits, submissions and standard contracts, and conduct supervised legal research to support opinions and case strategies.
• Prepare bundles and exhibits for Disciplinary Committee hearings and court appearances, and record minutes and keep accurate documentation of proceedings.
• Monitor deadlines for statutory filings, Access to Information requests and court submissions, and help ensure compliance with the Real Estate Act, PBMA and other relevant laws.
• Prepare Legal Committee meeting minutes for REB/CSC and Audit, provide transcription, scheduling and correspondence management, and reduce the routine clerical workload of attorneys.

Required profile

• Relevant training or qualification in legal or paralegal studies.
• A minimum of five CSEC subjects, including English Language.
• At least three years of experience in a law office or legal setting.
