Preschool Assistant – Early Childhood Support

About the role

We are seeking a dedicated Preschool Assistant to join our supportive team at St. Stephens Lutheran Preschool. In this role you will work closely with lead teachers to create a safe, nurturing, and engaging environment for young learners.

Key responsibilities

• Assist lead teachers in implementing lesson plans and daily activities.
• Support classroom routines such as circle time, meals, outdoor play, and rest periods.
• Provide one‑on‑one or small‑group instruction under teacher direction.
• Monitor children’s safety, maintain required staff‑to‑child ratios, and ensure a clean, organized classroom.
• Communicate professionally with families and keep accurate records.
• Follow all North Carolina childcare health, safety, and sanitation guidelines.
• Participate in staff meetings, required trainings, and teacher workdays.

Required profile

• Minimum age of 18 with a high school diploma.
• Successful completion of a criminal background check and fingerprinting.
• Medical report and TB screening prior to start date.
• CPR/First Aid certification and child maltreatment training within 90 days of employment.
• Prior experience with preschool‑aged children preferred.
