About the role
The HSE Officer will lead occupational health and safety management for plant operations in Montego Bay, Jamaica, ensuring compliance with local regulations, internal procedures and continuous improvement standards.
Key responsibilities
- Implement and monitor the occupational health and safety system, ensuring regulatory compliance.
- Identify risks, conduct inspections and audits, and prepare preventive documentation such as JHAs, special work permits and corrective action plans.
- Deliver safety training, emergency response drills and tool‑box talks tailored to identified risks.
- Design and maintain the Emergency Response Plan, coordinate drills and support emergency situations.
- Act as liaison with local authorities, support official inspections and manage workplace accident notifications.
- Investigate incidents, determine root causes and produce technical and follow‑up reports.
- Improve working conditions through signage, PPE usage, preventive controls and safety measures.
Required profile
- University degree in Engineering, Environmental Sciences, Occupational Health & Safety or related field.
- Minimum 5 years of occupational health and safety experience, preferably in industrial or energy settings.
- Valid driving licence and residence in Montego Bay.
- Ability to liaise with local authorities and prepare technical reports.
Required skills
- Knowledge of OSHA standards.
- Familiarity with ISO 45001, ISO 14001 and ISO 9001.
- Understanding of Jamaican OSH regulations, the OSH Bill and the Voluntary Compliance Program (VCP).
- Experience with Safe Worker programmes, incident reporting and root‑cause investigation.
- Competence in preparing Job Hazard Analyses, special work permits and corrective action plans.
- Emergency response planning and coordination.
