Strategic Communications Consultant for IDB in Jamaica & Bahamas

About the role
The Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) seeks a strategic, creative and versatile Communications Consultant to support the visibility and positioning of the IDB across its Country Offices in Jamaica and the Bahamas. The role will contribute to external communication of institutional priorities, regional programs, partnerships, operations and knowledge products.
Key responsibilities
- Provide strategic communications advice to Country Office leadership, ensuring alignment with IDB Group priorities and policies.
- Develop and implement annual communications and visibility plans that support institutional, regional and country‑level objectives.
- Design and execute communication strategies showcasing the development impact of IDB operations, partnerships and knowledge products.
- Support communications risk and crisis management in coordination with regional and institutional teams.
- Lead planning for high‑profile events, ensuring compliance with branding, messaging and protocol standards.
- Build and maintain relationships with media, government, private sector, civil society, donors and opinion leaders.
- Manage media relations activities, including outreach, interviews, press materials and reputation monitoring.
- Develop, edit and oversee production of content across digital, social, web and print channels.
- Ensure compliance with IDB Group brand and visual identity standards.
- Monitor communications performance, prepare analytical reports and recommend improvements.
Required profile
- Master’s degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, International Relations or related field (or equivalent combination of Bachelor’s degree and experience).
- Minimum five years of professional experience in strategic communications, development communications, public relations or social media/online community management.
- Proven proficiency in online photography, videography and digital content creation.
- Experience working in Jamaica and Caribbean countries is highly desirable.
- Strong understanding of local cultural environment and diplomatic protocol.
- Fluent in English (spoken and written) and citizen of a 48‑member IDB country, eligible to work in the Bahamas or Jamaica without sponsorship.
