Movement Operations Associate (Beneficiary-Facing Activities)
OIM - ONU Migration · Kingston
Job description
About the role
IOM, a UN-related organization founded in 1951, is recruiting a Movement Operations Associate (Beneficiary-Facing Activities). The role supports migrant and refugee movements by providing direct support to beneficiaries, managing travel-related processes, assisting vulnerable individuals and ensuring compliance with IOM operational and protection standards. It is a key point of contact for safe, orderly and dignified movement operations.
Key responsibilities
- Carry out beneficiary-facing activities under the Field Support and Data Processing Pillar, covering resettlement, relocation, humanitarian admissions, family reunification, voluntary repatriation and other emergency initiatives by land, air or water.
- Monitor and guide teams of Operations Assistants when needed, and coordinate field support with units, agencies and service providers at airports, seaports, transit centers, camps or third-party facilities.
- Provide assistance for extended periods, including overnight and weekends, and coordinate transportation of beneficiaries to and from consolidation points.
- Help provide food and other essentials, and ensure people with special needs and sensitive cases (including unaccompanied and separated migrant children) receive appropriate support.
- Assist with pre-departure formalities such as travel documents and exit permits, and enter and update data in the relevant systems.
- Provide selection mission support and/or interpretation at airports, transit centers and camps, and assist visa applicants with appointments, biometrics and forms on request from government agencies.
- Undertake duty travel, follow IOM SOPs and Standards of Conduct, protect confidential data and report any non-compliance to supervisors.
Required profile
- High school diploma with five years of relevant experience, or a bachelor's degree in Social Science, International Relations, Regional Studies or a related field with three years of experience.
- Prior movement operations, transportation-related or management experience, and experience in programs with a movement operations component, especially resettlement.
- Experience communicating with beneficiaries and handling sensitive personal data.
- Fluency in English (oral and written); IOM's official languages are English, French and Spanish.
- Avoidable: airport experience is a distinct advantage; working knowledge of another UN official language is also an advantage.
Required skills
- Computer literate with good knowledge of Microsoft Office.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, attention to detail and ability to organize.
- Self-motivated, able to work under pressure with minimal supervision.
