Senior Mechanic

About the role

The Senior Mechanic ensures that all jobs assigned to mechanics are completed on time, maintains quality assurance and works with the Service Center Supervisor to help optimise the full potential of the Service Center through growth and development.

Key responsibilities

• Recommend process improvements for administrative and mechanical procedures of the service center.
• Diagnose vehicles, recommend the scope of work and the parts needed, and check completed jobs and drive-test vehicles for quality assurance.
• Answer customer questions about services and products by telephone or in person, and register customers with a next-in-line number before work starts.
• Make recommendations on service pricing and suggest which services to add or remove from the offering.
• Advise customers on defective parts and keep workstations clean and tools maintained.
• Assist the Supervisor with monthly reports so they are accurate and submitted on time.

Required profile

• Completion of the Jamaica-German Automotive School (JAGAS) Motor Vehicle Repairs Level 3 or equivalent from a recognised institution.
• At least 10 years of experience as a mechanic, including 3 years in a similar position.
• At least 3 years of supervisory experience over mechanics.
• Overseas or dealership experience is an advantage.

Required skills

• Technical knowledge of automotive electrical systems, brakes, engines, transmissions, suspension, front end, motor vehicle computer systems, fuel systems and air conditioning.
• Ability to assess vehicles, diagnose and troubleshoot issues and recommend repairs.
• Clear direction and performance feedback to mechanics, effective communication with team members and customers, and ability to take instruction from supervisors and management.
